UNSW Energy Monitoring System

Over the last 14 years, Provecta Energy Solutions has supported UNSW in the installation, maintenance and upgrade of their Energy Management and Control System – EMACS – a decentralised system that automatically monitors and records real-time data from devices on the main Kensington campus alongside other smaller sites. The University of New South Wales (UNSW) is one of Australia’s leading research and teaching universities, with a large 38-hectare campus in Kensington, Sydney. Established in 1949, UNSW has expanded rapidly and now has over 56,000 students.

EMACS has allowed for monitoring of utilities consumption, and supported UNSW in energy savings initiatives, giving visibility to the usage data required. EMACS also collects power quality data, which allows for quick diagnosis of quality events, and monitoring of incoming supply quality, as well as the impact of downstream loads. The EMACS system also monitors UNSW’s high-voltage network, with advanced monitoring and control increasing network reliability and shortening downtimes.

Provecta has partnered with UNSW in making upgrades to the EMACS software suits, maintaining existing devices, and adding new devices (both Schneider and third-party):

  • Water Meters
  • Gas Meters
  • Electrical Energy Meters
  • Protection Relays
  • Circuit Breakers
  • Power Quality Meters
